Dear President Obama,
The news in Afghanistan is not good.
It is very unlikely that the news in this part of the world, under present policies, will ever be good within your term in office.
So perhaps the time has come for lateral thinking.
War is an unintelligent way to resolve international issues. It is almost by definition, whether won or otherwise, an admission of defeat.
For this reason I urge you to transform your approach – and adopt a policy of monitoring and encouragement / chastisement in Afghanistan… and bring your troops back home.
